It is situated at a distance of around 18 Km from the town of Magadi and is a place with both historical & religious significance. The ruins of the fort built in the 16th century by Kempegowda, a feudal ruler under the Vijayanagara kingdom, and the Shankareshwara temple on top of the hill are the highlights of this trek. 2. Hulukadi Betta Trek

Hulukadi betta is one trekking place near Bangalore that is awash with myths, ancient history & lots of adventure. A temple dedicated to Veerabhadra with many myths surrounding it, the fort walls & watchtowers on the hill built by the Chola kings between the 11th & 13th century & the panoramic view of the surroundings that the peak offers are the highlights of this trek. The total trek distance of Hulukadi Betta is 7 km. You can trek Hulukadi Betta even with no prior trekking experience. 3. Kuntibetta Trek

Located near the town of Pandavapura, Kunti Betta is very popular as a night trekking destination. The trek trail starts from the temple near the base and passes through huge boulders & rocky terrain before ending at the pillar on the summit. Throughout the trek, you get to see some wonderful views of the surrounding paddy fields & coconut groves. Also, the hill next to it with the backdrop of a lake makes for a scenic view. It is now a popular trekking place frequented by trekkers from Bangalore & Mysore. The trek takes just 2.5 to 3 hours to complete & is well suited for beginners.

4. Maakalidurga Trek

Maakalidurga is a hill near the village of the same name & is situated en-route from Doddaballapur to Gauribidanur. It is an easy to moderate level trek. The main highlights of this trek are the railway track that passes at the base of the hill which makes it the only railway track trek close to Bangalore & the view of the lake from the peak. The hill also holds the ruins of a fort & a Shiva temple at the summit. You’ll have to pay entry fees & take permission from the Karnataka forest department to do this trek.

5. Ramanagara Hills Trek

Ramanagara hills also known as ‘Sholay hills’ is a perfect one-day trekking destination from Bangalore. There is a temple dedicated to Lord Rama on the hill & there are stairs to the temple. After the temple, you’ll have to climb a rocky terrain to reach the summit. The trek is beginner-friendly. Ramangara is also known for other activities like camping, rappelling, rock-climbing, bird-watching, etc, apart from trekking. The other places to visit near Ramanagara hills are the Vulture Sanctuary, Janapada Loka & SRS hills, or Shri Revana Siddeshwara hills.

6. Koongal Betta Trek

Koongal betta on Ramanagara-Kanakapura road gets its name from the oddly shaped rock that protrudes from the hill. It is around 53 km from Bangalore & 7 km from Ramanagara. The trek is a very easy one to do & is an ideal place to introduce kids to treks. There is a dirt track that takes you almost halfway up the hill. From here you’ll have to climb a little for the first viewpoint where there is a Nandi statue. If you find further ahead from here you’ll reach the peak where there is a temple of Anjaneya & also a shelter for rest. The view from this point is mesmerizing as you’ll get to see the rugged landscape with hills all around Ramanagara.

7. Achalu Betta Trek

Achalu is a tiny village near Kanakapura & the hill gets its name from this village. This rocky hill is mostly covered in shrubs like the many hills in this region. There is a Muneshwara temple and a Nandi statue at the top of the hill. The peak of the hill offers an amazing view of the surrounding landscape which is a feast to the eyes. It is another easy one-day trek to do near Bangalore and is also suitable for kids.

8. Devarayanadurga Trek

Devarayanadurga is around 20 km away from Dabaspete & stands tall at a height of around 1200 meters. There are many springs on this hill namely Jayathirtha, Ramathirtha & Dhanushthirtha. The river Shimsha also takes its birth in these hills. There are stairs to climb most of the hill, i.e, till Yoga Lakshmi Narasimhaswamy temple & from there you’ll have to move ahead in dense bushes to reach the peak. It is one of the easy one-day treks near Bangalore to do on a weekend. Other places to visit nearby are Namadachilume (a perennial spring of water) & Goravanahalli Lakshmi temple.

9. Antaragange Trek and Cave Exploration

Antaragange is located around 3.5 km away from Kolar & is famous for cave exploration & night trekking. There are stairs to the temple dedicated to Lord Shiva & the actual trek starts from the temple. It takes around 2 to 3 hours to reach the summit from the temple. The huge boulders on the way have formed caves. The peak offers a beautiful view of the surrounding fields, also watching the sunset from here is an experience like none other. Given its proximity to Bangalore, the Antaragange trek has become one of the most explored & famous one-day treks near Bangalore.

10. Chennagiri Trek

Chennagiri/Channagiri is a hill which is a part of the Nandi hills range around 65 Km from Bangalore. It is one of those less-explored one day treks near Bangalore and is an absolute delight for those who seek a challenging trek. The two small temples of Omkareshwara & Hanuman at the top mark the peak of the hill. There is a small reservoir near the Omkareshwara temple which never seems to dry up completely. The incredible 360 degree view of the surrounding hills & villages you get to see from the peak is a feast to the eyes. This trek is better done in monsoons and winter as the summers are a little harsh in this region.

11. Skandagiri Trek

Skandagiri also known as Kalavaradurga is well known for night trekking & the beautiful sunrise view from the peak. The hill is located near the village named Kalavara & hence the name Kalavaradurga. The ruins of the fort built by Tippu Sultan is one of the main highlights of Skandagiri trek along with the beautiful sunrise view. Being very close to Bangalore Skandagiri lures hoards of trekkers and adventure seekers on weekends & is one of the most popular weekend treks from Bangalore.

12. Saavanadurga Trek

Saavanadurga is the largest (1227 meters) monolith of Asia & is located around 60 km away from Bangalore. It is said to be one of the most challenging one-day treks near Bangalore & has two different trek trails- Karigudda & Biligudda. Trekkers use both the trek trails to reach the summit, however, most prefer Biligudda as Karigudda is very steep & more challenging than Biligudda. The spectacular view of the river Arkavathi flowing you get to see from the peak isa feast to the eyes. The total trek takes anywhere between 5 to 6 hours to complete.

13. Channarayanadurga Trek

Replete with lots of history & an adventurous trek trail Channarayanadurga is one of the must do one day treks near Bangalore. Channarayanadurga has an altitude of 1188 meters & is located around 100 km from Bangalore.

This is a trek with a moderate difficulty level & you can do it even if you have no prior trekking experience. The trek trail starts at a village near the base of the hill passes through rocky terrain before ending at the summit. 14. Madhugiri Fort Trek

Standing tall at a height of 1200 meters, Madhugiri is the second largest monolith in Asia, after Saavanadurga. The gorgeous views of the surrounding hills & greenery you get to see are the highlights of this trek.

16. Baananthi Maari Betta Trek

Baananthi Maari Betta is a small hill near Kanakapura that still remains as one of the less-explored trekking places near Bangalore. It is also known by the names Maari Betta & Karadi Betta. It is one of the few treks around Bangalore which is not very difficult but offers absolutely amazing views to the trekkers. The best time to do this trek would be post monsoon & before the onset of summer. Research the route well & plan properly before going for this trek as there are many trails on the hill. You might get lost if you are not prepared.
